Minebea Group cuts overall CO2 emissions by a total of 15% over three years

The Minebea Group ("Minebea") produced an overall amount of 549,460 tons of CO2 emissions at its manufacturing bases in the fiscal year ended March 31, 2004. By the fiscal year ended March 31, 2007, that figure had been cut to 477,823 tons, which amounts to a 15% reduction.

The Kyoto Protocol, adopted in 1997, calls for advanced nations to cut down on the emission of greenhouse gases, including CO2, between the years 2008 and 2012. Specifically, Japan is to reduce emissions by 6% compared to 1990 levels. Minebea has succeeded in reducing its greenhouse gas emissions by diligently installing energy-saving air-conditioning and manufacturing equipment at its facilities.

Moreover, Minebea reduced its CO2 emissions during the period above while also increasing sales. Whereas consolidated sales were at 268.6 billion yen in the fiscal year ended March 31, 2004, by the fiscal year ended March 31, 2007, they had reached 331 billion yen, a 23% increase. Thus, despite the increase in sales, CO2 emissions were successfully cut.
